Awareness cum interactive session on “Prevention of Harassment in educational institutions” held at Kathua

Kathua : To spread awareness on the menace of ‘Physical and Sexual Harassment’, Mission Shakti, in collaboration with Nari Shakti Jagriti Manch, Kathua, on Monday organised an interactive and educative session on the topic “Harassment awareness and prevention in educational institutions” at Government Degree College Kathua.
SSP Kathua R.C Kotwal, who was the chief guest, started the proceedings by lighting traditional lamps.
As many as ten students from different private schools and colleges participated in the programme and threw light on harassment at workplace and educational institutions.
The Principal of the host college, Sumanesh Jasrotia, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of the session and underlined the need to create awareness on harassment in workplace and educational institutions so that the female employees do not face any discomfort at workplaces.
SSP Kathua R.C Kotwal deliberated in detail about the subject and sensitized the participants about the legal provisions and remedies available to the citizens related to harassment. He said Kathua Police have a dedicated Women Police Station to take complaints of issues related to women besides a Pink Squad to help women who are facing harassment of any kind. He further suggested girl students to utilise the One Stop Centre which is coming up in the district through the Social Welfare Department under Mission Shakti which will be of great help to the women who are in distress and need legal and moral support.
The chief guest gave away certificates of appreciation to the participating students.
DSWO Kathua Abdul Rahim, Chairman, Nari Shakti Jagriti Manch, Kathua Sushma Mahajan and officers and officials of One Stop Centre and Mahila Shakti Kendra and a large number of college students were also present.
