B’la : As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence, the District Administration under the aegis of Union Ministry of Power Thursday organized a mega event at Government Degree College Uri to celebrate the “Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal Bhavishya, Power @2047 programme, aimed to showcase the achievements recorded especially in Power Sector.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar presided over the programme as the chief guest. PRI members including DDC Members, ADDC Baramulla, SDM and a huge gathering of people from different walks of life were present on the occasion.
Pertinently, the Bijli Mahotsav is being celebrated as a platform to showcase achievements in the power sector besides conservation of energy resources.
On the occasion, major achievements were also shown under the power sector in the last 75 years to showcase the country’s transformation from power deficit to power surplus. Rural electrification under Saubhagya and other schemes was also filmized.
Speaking at the event, the DC highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth achieved by the power sector over the past few years.
Elaborating further, the DC said that the historical Mohra power project shall be revamped soon to augment power capacity of the district. She further said that the government is doing remarkable work in the field of electricity. The centrally sponsored schemes like Saubhagya are oriented for the larger interest of the public, she added.
Complimenting concerned departments for the remarkable achievements made in the power sector, the DC underlined the need for achieving saturation in various sponsored schemes and programmes. She stressed upon the concerned agencies to sensitize the masses at grassroots level so that more and more beneficiaries are covered within the ambit of several sponsored schemes.
Various cultural programmes, nukkad nataks were presented by renowned artists and school children.
The short Skits presented by the school children also showcased the ways to use the power judiciously. The event also witnessed several beneficiaries sharing their experiences.
Meanwhile, a felicitation programme was also organized during which certificates of appreciation were handed-over by DC to the workers of PDD Department. Certification of participation was provided among the beneficiaries under the Saubhagya scheme.
Later, the DC also inspected the ongoing works of Children’s Park Uri being established at a cost of Rs. 50 lacs. She took stock of the works being executed for the maintenance and beautification of the said park.
On the occasion, the DC directed the concerned authorities to speed up the work so that the park is thrown open for the children for their amusement.
