Science Club GCW Udhampur organises One Day Workshop

Udhampur : Science Club of Government College for Women Udhampur, in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST) Thursday organised a One Day Workshop on the theme “Inculcating scientific approach among the students for management of different seasonal infections’.
A poster making competition on the theme, “Seasonal infections and their Preventions” and an awareness lecture were also organised on the occasion.
In the morning session, 36 students participated in the Poster making competition.
The competition was judged by Prof. Ashni Devi, HOD Botany and Dr. Kewal Kumar, Assistant Prof., Department of Botany.
First, second and third positions were bagged by Ayushi Kundal of Bsc Sem-VI, Saher Shakeel of Bsc Sem-IV and Pragnaya Raina of BSc sem-II respectively.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Saanjh Sharma of Sem-IV, Samaili Thakur of Sem-IV and Shaheen Koser of Sem VI. All winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates.
In the afternoon session, the programme started by lighting the ceremonial lamp by Chief Guest, Dr. Monika Sharma, the Principal of the College. Convener Science club Dr. Sanjeet Kour presented the welcome address. After that an awareness lecture was delivered by Resource person Dr. Vinod Gupta, Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist, District Hospital Udhampur. In his lecture, he discussed different seasonal infections, their causes and preventive measures.
Besides, he also presented few case studies of Chenani and Ramnagar Tehsil of district Udhampur. He also supplemented his talk by emphasising on Hepatitis and its types which is very prevalent nowadays. Further the house was opened for a question answer session in which students posed their queries and got expert answers.
Dr. Monika Sharma, principal of the college who was the chief guest on the occasion, appreciated the organisers for hosting the event and congratulated the winners of the poster making competition.
In her address, she stated that in the present scenario, such awareness events are the need of the hour in educational institutions. She also paid special thanks to Shruti Khanna, District Coordinator Department of Science and Technology Udhampur and Dr. Vinod Gupta for their special contribution in the organisation of Thursday’s workshop.
Shruti Khanna, District Coordinator Department of Science and Technology Udhampur coordinated the whole programme. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Sumita Rao. Pragnaya Raina of B.Sc. Sem-II conducted the proceedings of the event. Prof Seema Sharma, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Prof. Paramjeet Singh, Prof Shallu Jasrotia, Prof Rajeev and Prof. Tania Mahajan also graced the occasion with their benign presence.
