Former DG Sports Mir Jahagir passes away, death widely condoled, Kashmir Horizon also condoles demise

Srinagar: Former Director General Youth Services and Sports and former Director Rural Development Mir Jahangir passed away after brief illness at his Humhama residence in the outskirts of Srinagar city. His death has been widely mourned by his bosses and friends in J&K civil administration, political leaders, trade unionists and civil society groups. He was laid to rest at Friends Enclave Graveyard at Humhama. His funeral prayers (Nimaz-i- Jinazah) was attended by top political leaders, his colleagues and friends from civil administration and leaders of several civil society group and trade union organisations.
During his over three decade long career in J&K Civil Services he held several key positions including Director General Youth Services & Sports, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam and Director Rural Development Kashmir. He was respected by both his bosses and colleagues in J&K civil administration throughout his service career as he was known for his people friendly gestures and professional integrity throughout his service career.
For Mir’s family the family ceremony of his son has followed his untimely demise and family never expected to mourn his death in less than a week after his son’s marriage ceremony. Top retired and serving J&K bureaucrats including former Chairman J&K Public Service Commission M. S Pandit, former Advisor to Governor and former Financial Commission Industries and Commerce, former Commissioner Secretary School Education G A Peer have condoled his demise and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
Condoling the demise of Mir Jahangir former Chairman J&K Public Service Commission M S Pandit said ” I was deeply distressed to hear the sad news about Jahangir Mir. He was too young to die. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family”. Condoling the demise of Mir Jahangir former Advisor to Governor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai said ” I am deeply shocked to learn about the demise of Mir Jahangir a popular a promising officer . I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family”. In their condolence messages National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Party’s Vice President Omar Abdullah prayed for peace to the departed soul in the highest echelons of Jannat and much needed strength to the bereaved household. Sajad remembered Jehangir Mir as an excellent human being and a vibrant officer. In his condolence message the Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone said “Shocking news of the demise of Mr Jehangir Mir, ex DG Sports. An excellent human being, vibrant officer. May Allah grant him Jannat. My condolences to the bereaved family,” he said in his condolence message”. In his condolence message, Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen termed demise of Mir Jahangir a great loss to the society, Stating therein further that late Mir Jehangir was an able administration with qualities of head and heart besides being a noble soul and efficient officer who by dint of his ability and public outreach, proved his worth.” Condoling his demise former Secretary J&K Academy of Art , Culture & Languages Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said ” Demise of Mir Jahangir a shocking news.We were well known to each for the last two and half decades–from the days he was posted with the then Home Minister late Mushtaq Ahmad Lone.May the noble soul rest in eternal peace”. Kashmir Horizon also condoles the demise of Mir Jahangir. In his condolence message Shafqat Hussain Bukhari the Editor In Chief Kashmir Horizon said “Shocked and saddened to know about demise of one of my best friends Mir Jahangir Sahb former DG Youth Services & Sports and former Deputy Commissioner Kulgam. Inna Lillah Wa Inna Elahi Rajiown. He was not only a friend but just like a brother to me. I believe that this is a huge personal loss to me. Find myself short of words to pay tributes to Mir Jahangir Sahb. He was little bit unwell but not so much that we would expect to loose him so soon. . A pious gentleman full of generosity known for his people friendly. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May Almighty Allah grant peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this very big loss”
