DDC Kupwara reviews progress under ODOP-PMFME scheme

Kupwara : District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the progress achieved under the scheme One District One Product (ODOP) Pradhan Mantri formation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Schemes.
The DDC reviewed department wise progress threadbare with special thrust on walnut product and received feedback from the officers. He asked officers that One District One Product is being taken on priority basis by the higher ups and the administration was asked to review the progress of ODOP on a weekly basis.
He asked the concerned officers to play a proactive role and work in tandem so that the progress could be viewed on ground.
The DDC directed District Head of KVK Kupwara to provide all possible support in registration of FPO to Agriculture and allied departments and also nominated him as Nodal Officer for monitoring the progress of line departments.
The DDC expressed his displeasure over progress of some of the officers who have not performed well as per the given timeline. He advised them to ensure speedy disposal of cases and avoid pendency so that cases could be referred to the banks for financial assistance.
The DDC gave special direction to the Assistant Director Handicrafts to provide handholding and encourage the wood carving in the district adding that the district has a good scope in wood carving as the raw material is available in abundance in the district.
Khalid Jahangir also stressed the need for encouraging the Self Help Groups as the persons working in SHGs used to have gained lot of experience in micro financing and it is also a successful concept for self employment generation.
He asked the concerned officers to give focused attention towards their responsibilities in order to achieve the purpose under which the district has been given ODOP.
He also asked the officers to provide the data about the awareness programmes which they have already conducted as per the schedule devised by the District Administration within 2 days and also ensure that the officers and subject matter specialist participate in the awareness programmes during which the people would be given detailed awareness of the schemes envisaged by the government from time to time for the welfare of the people.
The DDC directed AD Handicrafts to conduct a proper survey and make cluster for better success. He also asked for formation of clusters in Sheep, Diary, Agriculture and Horticulture to yield the better results at ground level.
The DDC said that district Kupwara has a tremendous scope in development of tourism, Handicraft, Handloom, Sheep/Diary, Agriculture and Horticulture and urged upon the concerned officers to fully concentrate on these schemes and motivate the people at ground level to opt for these eco-friendly and income generating schemes.
He said till the officers have no drive, passion and understanding, good things cannot prevail adding that it is the officers who can revolutionize the rural economy of the district.
