B’pora : Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmed on Thursday dedicated six Garbage pickup vans to the public that shall be used by the Municipal Council Bandipora (MCB) for door to door collection of waste.
President Municipal Council Bandipora Basharat Hussain, Vice President Naseer Ahmad Mir, Chief Executive Officer MCB Wali Mohammad and other senior officers of the district were present on the occassion.
With the addition of six more vehicles provided by the Department of Urban Local Bodies to the existing fleet of garbage pickup vans, the Municipal Council Bandipora fully shifted to door to door garbage collection, shunning the old practice of community based dust bins.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmad said the motive of this initiative is to focus completely on collecting waste from each and every household in all these wards at their door steps.
He said the community based collection turned out to be faulty with increase in quantity of waste as it attracted different diseases during summers besides the menace of dogs thus troubling the residents.
Dr Owais said the addition of a fleet of garbage pick up vans will make the wards free from garbage litter.
He also instructed the concerned to ensure collection of segregated waste from each and every household covering all the lanes and mohhallas in all the wards.
President Basharat Hussain stressed on the need of an effective awareness campaign and said the participatory role of students ,Children and citizens is must to have getting them involved at various platforms by organising rallies and having programs significantly on importance of waste segregation at household level also.
