Baramulla: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested seven gamblers and alsoseized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued on Thursday police said that after receiving specific inputs abour the gambling activities in Tangmarg area of the Baramulla district a police party from Police Station Tangmarg raided a gambling site at Drung Park Tangmarg and apprehended seven gamblers who were identified as Amir Hayat Khan resident of Tang Bagh Nawakadal, Sajad Ahmad Wani resident of Wanganpora Eidgah, Lateef Ahmad Bhat resident of Zoonimar and Mohd Younis Malik resident of Main Chowk Eidgah, Mushtaq Ahmed Baba resident of Chadihar Wanganpora Eidgah, Mohd Ismail Bangru resident of Tanga Bagh Eidgah, Mohd Maqbool Wani resident of Wanganpora Eidgah.
Stating that the officers have seized stake money of ₹ 1,32,000/- and playing cards from the gamblers who have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police in it’s above referred statement further said that two vehicles (Alto and Santro) bearing registration No.’s JK01AH-1415 & JK01S-2079 were also seized from gambling spot, stating therein further that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tangmarg and further investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above referred statement police warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
