Mayor, Dy Mayor JMC Participate In Eat-Right Awareness Camp

Food & Drug Admin organises Walkathon, Promotional Campaign

Jammu :Commissionerate of Food & Drugs Administration J&K, on Wednesday organised Eat-Right Walkathon cum Awareness Mela here at Kala Kendra under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
As per a press statement issued here, the Food stalls put up by Self Help Groups, besides the ICDS attracted a huge number of general public and students, in which Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta was the chief guest at the event, while Deputy Mayor, Advocate Purnima Sharma was the guest of honour.
In the walkathon organised early in the morning, students from seven local schools participated. Passing through Police Lines and Green Belt Park, it culminated back at Kala Kendra. A painting competition was also organised at the occasion. Mobile Food Testing Lab was also part of the awareness initiative.
Speaking at the occasion, the Mayor highlighted that Jammu Municipal Corporation, since its inception, has been rising in Swachh Survekshan rankings and was expected to rise further in this year’s results. Jammu ranks at 169th among 372 cities, he informed.
The Mayor said that the city was developing in leaps and bounds due to the Government’s efforts. “Ropeway projects, artificial lake, beating the retreat ceremony and the presence of various premier institutes in the city are going to make it a coveted place in the near future. Jammu is going to become a hub of health, education and industry soon,” he said.
The Jammu Railway Station and Airport are also being expanded and developed to cater to the fast developing city with accelerating tourist influx, said the Mayor elaborating government’s efforts. The Mayor also assured providing space to self help groups for setting up stalls for promoting healthy foods in the city.
The Deputy Mayor also called for building a healthy society by encouraging healthy food habits among families and especially among the youth. She assured that JMC would assist in organising promotional activities in this regard.
In his address, Commissioner Foods & Drugs Administration, Shakeel ur Rehman elucidated upon consumption of healthy, wholesome and fortified foods. He informed that all government outlets would provide fortified rice and wheat by the year 2024. State Drug Controller, Lotika Khajuria also shed light on healthy food habits and ways to prevent lifestyle diseases through them.
Director School Education Jammu, Dr Ravi Shankar Sharma, in his address, said that 5 lakh students are being provided nutritious mid day meals under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in Jammu division. “Student health is being monitored and their meals are planned accordingly. The students would also be issued health cards in future”, he informed. Those present at the occasion also included ADC Jammu, Satish Sharma among other government officers and ASHA workers, students and teachers
