Massive Plantation Drive Kick-Started At GDC Samba

Samba : In continuation with “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava”, Department of Zoology of Pt. Prem Nath Dogra Government Degree College, Samba and Eco-Club, NSS Unit, NCC celebrated Vanmahotsava by planting different varieties of plants like Indian Jasmine, Jamun, Tamarind, Pinus, Gauva, Kachnar, Amlaetc in the college campus.
As per a statement, the plantation drive was organized in collaboration with Forest Division Territorial Samba.
The event was patronized by District Forest Division Samba, Som Dutt Khajuria, SFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Forest Division Territorial Samba, Neeraj Baru, Range Officer and other field staff of forest department Samba.
At the outset, Dr. Surinder Kumar Principal of the college gave a motivational speech to the students about various environmental hazards being faced in day to day life and emphasized the role of trees to combat the problem. The other faculty members who graced the occasion includes Prof. Ashok Bhagat, Prof. Shobha Gupta, Prof. Ram Singh, Prof. Pawan Gupta, Prof.Vijay Chandan, Dr.Yash Paul Singh, Dr.Joginder Singh Prof.Geeta Lakhotra and Prof.SumanBala.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Sushma Sharma, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, Pt.Prem Nath Dogra Government Degree College, Samba. Dr. Sushma Sharma highlighted the role of youth in conservation of flora and fauna of their native place.
The students participated with enthusiasm in the event by planting all the saplings.
Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Babita Kumari, Assistant Professor Zoology GDC Samba and co-coordinator of the event.
