DC Kupwara reviews Disaster Management preparedness

Officers asked to prepare Disaster Management Plan within 15 days

Kupwara : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir Friday asked all line departments to prepare a well-defined Disaster Management Plan so that at the times of any emergency, administration could manage the situation in the best possible way.
The DC, who is also Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, was Friday addressing a meeting of senior officers of the district convened to review the disaster preparedness in the district.
The DC took a detailed review with regard to vulnerability for floods and other natural disasters in the district and role of departments in mitigation of the disaster crisis, preparation of comprehensive documentation, community resource mobilization and capacity building training and identification of safe places/buildings and received feedback from all line departments.
He said that Disaster Management is a professional work and the District Plan for Disaster management should be a composite one covering all areas and segments of the disasters. He stressed the need for a well-equipped control room for which he directed ACR Kupwara to further augment the control room already established in the district.
The DC asked concerned Tehsildars to identify land at safe locations for Disaster Management Control Rooms at Kupwara, Handwara and Lolab and send Shajria Khasra within 2 days to his office.
He constituted a 3 member committee of officers for preparing a list of rescue equipment. He also directed ADC Kupwara to prepare Disaster Management Plan within 15 days for which the ADC asked concerned officers to submit plan papers in his office by or before July 25.
The DC directed CMO Kupwara to submit a list of Basic Life Support Skills (BLSS) within 2 days so that necessary training is imparted to the volunteers about BLSS in various areas of the district. He said people should be conscious about the disasters.
During the discourse of the meeting, Dy. Director Fire & Emergency Services, the DC asked for installation of fire extinguishers for which he asked him to submit the list of identified buildings so that concerned departments could be given proper directions for installation of the fire extinguisher.
The DC also asked him to train at least 2 employees of each office for installation of the fire extinguishers for its proper use.
SSP Kupwara; ADC Handwara, ADC Kupwara, ASP Handwara, SE Hydraulic, SDM Lolab, SDM Karnah, ACP, CEO, Dy. Director F&E Service, DFOs, DIO, DMO, Executive Engineers, Tehsildars and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
