Principal GDC Udhampur inaugurates Intra-college Knock-out Cricket Tournament

Udhampur :As part of the celebration of AzadiKaAmrutMahotsav, Sports Department of Government Degree College Udhampur Wednesday organised an Intra College knock out Cricket Tournament under Fit India Mission and Khelo India here on Wednesday.
The College Principal, Dr Romesh Kumar Gupta, was the chief guest, while Prof.BabuLal Thakur was the special guest. The Chief Guest declared the Tournament open.
The Knock-out tournament was organized by Anil Sharma PTI, Department of Sports of the College, under the supervision of Prof. Kamal Kishore, Convener Sports Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest applauded the initiative of the Sports Department under the guidance of Prof. Kamal Kishore. He said that the college has a golden history of sports at the State and National levels and has produced sports-persons of great repute. “We intend to carry on the torch of sports with high spirit to a new level with more discipline and sportsmanship” he said. He congratulated all the participating teams of the different semesters of the college and also declared the tournament open by playing a symbolic stroke with the bat.
In the knock-out Tournament, the inaugural match was played between the teams of 2nd Semester Headed by Captain Surinder with PankajSingh,VarunSharma,Vikas Thakur(wk), Sahil Sharma,Tarun Sharma, Ganesh Dogra,Nikhil Kumar, Rahul Singh, Parveen Singh, Pankaj Singh, Arun Kumar in the playing Eleven, and 6th Semester Headed by Captain Ashank and Akshit, Jatin, Akhil, Sachin, AkshitSaraswat(WK), Vikas, Raghav, Goutam, Ritik and Natish in the playing eleven.After a neck-to-neck bout, the 6th-semester team overpowered the 2nd-semester team and won by 6 wickets. Nishank clinched 5 Wickets and scored 13 runs for Sem-6 whereas Surinder for 2nd Sem took 2 Wickets and scored 11 runs.
In the second match played between Sem-4 BSc with Pratham, Ajay, Vivam Singh, Ankush Thakur, Gourav, Sourav, Sham Singh, Himanshu, Rohit Kumar( captain) Sumit, Vishal and Sem-4 Arts with Kamran Naik(C) AjmalRiaz, Munish, Varinder Kumar, KhatibKanth, Sunny, Vikram, Arjun Singh, Rishavkundal, Ranjeet in the team.Sem-4 Arts won the match by 10 wicketswith a clean sweep.
The final match of the Knock-out tournament will now be played tomorrow between the 6th Semester and 4th Semester Arts.
For both the matches, Abhishek was the umpire, whereas Ajmal was the leg Umpire. Kamran acted as the scorer of the matches played.
The matches were also witnessed by Dr.Pankaj Sharma, Dr. Ajay Sharma, Prof.Samosh Kumar and a number of students as spectators.
