IIM Jammu holds series of activities on day 3 of Five Day Orientation Prog

Jammu :The Indian Institute of Management Jammu Wednesday commenced its 2nd day of the 5-day Orientation Program with a peaceful yoga session that focused on the theme, ‘Maximize happiness and mindfulness’ by the Yoga and meditation trainer.
Post the yoga session, the students were made to visit the new campus of IIM Jammu in Jagti. The students felt ecstatic when they finally got to see the campus.
The post-lunch program witnessed a parallel session for MBA, MBA (HA & HM), and Ph.D. students by Dr.Nitin Upadhyay, Chairperson, MBA, Dr.HarshaJariwala, Chairperson MBA (HA & HM) and Dr.VaseemAkram, Chairperson, Doctoral Program, respectively.
Dr.Upadhyay, in his address to the students, shared the course structure, program pedagogy and objectives with the students. Further, he talked about how one should become a socially responsible leader. He also stressed on the importance of adaptability and the readiness to take on new challenges. Quoting Mark Twain’s famous words, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” he urged the students to explore and not hesitate as it would lead them to innovate and ideate.
At the same time, Dr.Harsha Jariwala welcomed the first batch of MBA (HA & HM) and enlightened them about the unique pedagogy of this course in which they will learn management at IIM Jammu, Healthcare administration at AIIMS Jammu, and technology at IIT Jammu.
Moreover, the Ph.D. students interacted with Dr.WaseemAkram. They learned about the unique opportunity they will be endowed with as they will engage in high-quality intra-disciplinary as well as inter-disciplinary research. Emphasizing on the commitment to educate and produce scholars, he wanted the batch to become leaders in their fields of research.
This was followed by the address of Cmdr Kesavan Baskaran(R), Chief Administrative Officer. He assured the students about their safe stay at IIM Jammu and shared some guidelines which would help the students in their two years stay in IIM Jammu. He made the students familiar with the administrative policies, about the safe practices followed by the Institute, and urged them to be disciplined and for making optimum usage of resources at the Institute. He wished the best of luck to the students in their transformational journey.
After this, Shailesh Lohiya, Librarian, IIM Jammu greeted the students and ascertained them with the various rich collection of Books, Journals, E-Databases, E-journals, reports, case studies, etc. available in online as well as offline form at the library. He also provided an overview into the overall functioning of the library and introduced his team to the students during his interactive session. He reiterated that the objective of the library is to facilitate appropriate and user-friendly access to current and relevant information to its patrons. He also gave an overview about the new library coming at the state-of-the-art campus at Jagtiand mentioned that it would be a mix of traditional and modern architecture. During his address he mentioned that library acts as learning resource centre for the faculty, staff and students of the Institute and also acts a nodal centre for Harvard business school and Ivey cases. Lastly, he wished good luck to the students for their journey ahead and offered all assistance to the students during their stay at IIM Jammu.
Further in the session, CA Rajat Jain, Financial Advisor & Chief Accounts Officer, IIM Jammu welcomed the students to IIM Jammu. He addressed the students with his rich knowledge and expertise and mentioned about the financial practices followed at the Institute of national importance. He reiterated the various banking arrangements of the Institute with reputed banks for facilitating the needy students with financial loans. He also provided an insight into the functioning of his office and introduced his team members to the students during the orientation session. He appeased the curiosity of the students presented in the form of financial queries and questions.
After the very knowledgeable session, Dr.RambalakYadav, Chairperson (International Relations) took the charge of the podium. He mentioned how IIM Jammu stands firm in its commitment to equip its students with a globally inclusive management education. He appraised the students about the tie-ups with reputed Institutions across the globe. He also mentioned that IIM Jammu offers students a unique opportunity to experience a culture that is a distinct amalgamation of several different regional flavours into its inherent Indian-ness.
Thereafter, SushilTripathi, HR-Head (Garment Division), Siyaram Silk Mills Ltd., to the students for a highly interactive session. He spoke about his experiences of the corporate world, and addressed the questions put forward by the students. At the end, he provided the students with some learnings and recommendations that would guide them in their journey.
Following this, Sunil David, Regional IOT Director, AT&T, and TagBox, in his address to the students, shared his in-depth knowledge of logistics and digital transformation in the industry. He talked about the way technology has disrupted numerous sectors, and how India has benefited immensely from leveraging the combination of AI and automation. His knowledge left the students informed and energetic.
This day was rounded off with an enthralling cultural event, coordinated by Dr.Barnali Chaudhary, Chairperson, and Student Affairs, in which the talented batchmates of the upcoming 7th batch of MBA students performed and showcased their talents.
