NHM J&K in collaboration with AIIMS, New Delhi organized orientation session on AMB to address Anemia in children & pregnant women

Jammu : Mission Director, NHM, J&K, Yasin M. Choudhary Thursday chaired an orientation meeting regarding AnemiaMukt Bharat organized by NHM J&K in collaboration with AIIMS, New Delhi in J&K. It was informed in the orientation meeting that AMB strategy aims to strengthen the existing mechanisms and foster newer strategies for tackling anemia, focused on target beneficiary groups, through six interventions and six institutional mechanisms; to achieve the envisaged target under the POSHAN Abhiyan for addressing the issue of Anemia in Children, adolescents, pregnant & lactating women.
Mission Director stressed upon the Chief Medical Officers to ensure proper distribution of Iron Folic Acid supplements to beneficiaries and conduct supportive supervision visits for successful implementation of the programme. He also stressed on orientation of front line workers with inter-sectoral coordination between Healths, Education & ICDS Department on the occasion.
Dr KapilYadav, Nodal Officer for National Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research on Anemia Control (NCEAR-A) at AIIMS, New Delhi gave brief presentation on the status of Anemia Prevalence in the UT and way forward for addressing the issue of Anemia in various age groups.
Participants were stressed to ensure Prophylactic Iron and Folic Acid supplementation in different age groups, Deworming – Twice a year, Intensified year-round Behaviour Change Communication Campaign, Testing and treatment of anemia and point of care treatment with special focus on pregnant women and school-going adolescents, Mandatory provision of Iron and Folic Acid fortified foods in government-funded public health programmes, Intensifying awareness, screening and treatment of non-nutritional causes of anemia in endemic pockets, with special focus on malaria, haemoglobinopathies.
The meeting was attended by Head of Departments Paediatrics, Medicine, PSM, Gynae from all the Medical Colleges. Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers, Nodal officers from National Health Mission & other concerned departments who participated in the meeting via video-conferencing.
