Rajouri :Block Medical Officer Kandi, Dr Iqbal Malik organised an awareness camp on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day at CHC Kandi Wednesday.
The day is marked to raise awareness about the infectious diseases collectively termed zoonotic diseases it is celebrated in memory of Louis Pasteur who successfully administered the first-ever Rabies vaccine.
Speaking at the event, CHO Kandi, Mohammad Ayoub Lone said that zoonotic diseases originate in animals and can spread to humans. Infections occur through bites or contact with the infected animal’s bodily fluids.
Veterinary Surgeon, Dr Shah Riaz Ahmed said that viruses, bacteria, fungi, prions or parasites cause zoonosis. Rabies, Ebola, certain strains of Swine Flu, Leptospirosis, Brucellosis, Anthrax, Zika and Ebola viruses.
