B’pora : The Sher I Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K) in collaboration with Science Technology and Innovation Council, Science and Technology Department J&K Government on Tuesday organised awareness cum inaugural programme on Dried Fish and Food Security- Livelihood Enhancement for Women of Fishermen Community at Laharwalpora, here.
The programme was aimed to create awareness among the fishermen regarding scientific fish drying to enhance the livelihood opportunities of the fishermen community.
During the programme, a hybrid solar electric dryer was also inaugurated and dedicated to the fishermen community of Laharwarpora village.
The dryer was inaugurated by acting Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. (Dr) M.A. Siddiqui in presence of Director research SKUAST-K, Prof. (Dr) Sarfaraz A. Wani, Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Wasim Raja, Deputy Director Fisheries, Rafiq Ahmad Sofi, Assistant Director Fisheries Showkat A. Bhat, Head division of Social Sciences, Prof. (Dr) Bilal A. Bhat, Head division of AEM, Prof. (Dr) Adnan Abubakr, Head division of FRM, Dr. T.H. Shah, senior scientist/ coordinator of the programme, Dr.Rizwana Malik and PC KVK, Dr. Tariq Malik.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC BandiporaWaseem Raja said that the District Administration is committed to uplift the fishermen community through various schemes. He said the Administration has taken up steps to boost all sections involved in economic output.
He also urged the youth to come forward and take benefits of Government schemes.
The programme was attended by more than 200 fishermen of Laharwalpora Village.
