SCERT Jammu, NIDM host training workshop for teachers to address Child Centric Vulnerability amid disasters

Jammu :State Council of Educational Research and Training Jammu, in collaboration with National Institute of Disaster Management CCDRR centre, Monday organized a Five Day workshop (July 4 to July 8, 2022) for teachers of Jammu Division on “Addressing Child Centric Vulnerability, enhancing capacity and promoting Resilience” amid disasters, here in SRML Government Higher Secondary School.
The workshop started with the lightening of lamp by esteemed dignitaries including Chief Guest, Romesh Kumar, Division Commissioner Jammu; Minga Sherpa Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Dr Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director school Education Jammu( Guest of Honour); HR Pakhru, Joint Director SCERT Jammu; Dr Kumar Rakka and Ranjan Kumar, the Resource persons from CCDRR, NIDM and CEO Jammu.
H.R Pakhru presented the welcome address, while keynote address was presented by Dr Kumar Raka-the programme officer CCDRR, NIDM.
At the onset of the session, Romesh Kumar, the Chief Guest, motivated the participants from all the districts of Jammu division with his kind words. He thanked the NIDM team for cooperating with SCERT in hosting the most relevant training in J&K which is most vulnerable topographically. He also dwelt on the fact that children and women are the most vulnerable during any disaster. “During the pandemic we have seen disasters creating disasters and we have to prepare children to tackle any eventuality and provide them psychological and social support, besides training them for the management of disasters.
The Director School Education reiterated that in the wake of development of primary and pre-primary sector of school education there is dire need for upgrading the infrastructure in the schools. He requested the Divisional Commissioner to facilitate the process of up-gradation of infrastructure by his kind intervention.
This workshop is being jointly organised by National Institute of Disaster Management CCDRR Centre and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) J&K Divisional Office Jammu.
Since the first wave of Covid 19 CCDRR-NIDM has conducted over 200 hundred trainings / webinar talks on various themes related to children and DRR covering all the 36 states and UTS of the country and have trained more than 150000 stakeholders of central and state governments , National Disaster Response Forces , State Disaster Management Authorities State Disaster Response Forces ,cross sectoral departments of state governments ( Health ,Education, Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Revenue, Women and Child Developments, Police Departments ) Academia, Civil society organisations , parents ,teachers , students etc.
The training on this very relevant and important matter is being organised under the patronage of Taj Hassan IPS, Executive Director NIDM New Delhi and Prof. Santosh Kumar, Project Director CCDRR NIDM.
Each day presentation of the speakers would be followed by a question answer session, wherein Resource Person will directly interact with the participants and answer their questions.
Upon successful completion of the five day training programme, the registered participants shall be eligible to receive the certificates of participation. Rakhi Attri, Academic Officer SCERT coordinated the programme.

Div Com Jammu reviews progress of National Clean Air Program Committee approves ITLS at identified locations of Jammu KH News Service Jammu | Sept. 15:Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the progress in implementation of the approved Action Plan for improvement of air quality in Jammu District under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The Divisional Commissioner is also the Chairperson of the District Level Monitoring Committee for monitoring the approved action Plan under NCAP. Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Devansh Yadav, Member Secretary of the Committee; Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rakesh Minhas- the Member; Joint Commissioner JMC Abdul Sattar – the Nodal Officer; a representative from the J&K Pollution Control Committee, besides other concerned officers were present in the meeting. The Member Secretary briefed the Committee about the NCAP Action Plan 2026-27, including the financial allocation, expenditure, completed and ongoing works and proposed interventions aimed at improving air quality in Jammu city. He also listed other physical and financial achievements. The Committee reviewed various measures under the Action Plan, including road and footpath improvement, development of green spaces and vertical gardens, park improvement, pothole repair, traffic management, solid waste and construction & demolition waste management, besides the awareness activities. After detailed deliberations, the Committee approved the Integrated Traffic Light System (ITLS) at identified locations in Jammu to strengthen traffic management through an integrated and coordinated system. The Committee also approved the supplementary plan and plantation proposal for KotBhalwal and Bhagwati Nagar, aimed at strengthening green cover and improving the urban environment. The Committee further decided to re-examine the projects proposed to be taken up under the NCAP Action Plan 2026-27, with a focus on prioritising interventions having greater impact on air quality and ensuring effective utilisation of available resources. The Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned officers to ensure timely completion of ongoing works and put in place a sustainable mechanism for proper maintenance of assets created under NCAP. He stressed that new green spaces, parks and other interventions be developed at suitable locations where their regular upkeep can be ensured. He further directed the officers to expedite implementation of the approved measures, with emphasis on dust control, road improvement, traffic management, greenery and effective solid waste management for achieving the objectives of the National Clean Air Programme.
