Workshop on establishment of new fruit plant nurseries held at Maralian

Jammu : The Department of Horticulture Jammu organized “One day workshop on Establishment, Registration and Management of New Fruit Plant Nurseries” Saturday at Government Fruit Plant Nursery Maralian district Jammu.
Over 100 nursery owners and entrepreneurs from different districts of Jammu division participated.
Director Floriculture Jammu S. Jatinder Singh was the Chief Guest and Director Horticulture Jammu Ram Savak presided over the function.
Joint Director Horticulture Jammu, C L Sharma; S Tejinder Singh, Member J&K Kissan Advisory Board, besides other officers were also present on the occasion.
The Jammu and Kashmir Fruit Nurseries (Licensing ) Act 1987 for establishment, licensing and regulation of fruit nurseries in the state of Jammu & Kashmir came into effect on 4th January 1988. The provisions of the Act were elaborated in detail by a team of experts of the Department of Horticulture Jammu.
It was informed that for establishment of a new nursery, a minimum of 4 kanal of and a maximum of 80 kanal land is required.
Addressing the nursery owners and entrepreneurs, the Director Horticulture explained the different subsidy components available for the establishment of new nurseries and up gradation of existing ones. The Department is providing an incentive of Rs 7.5 lakh for establishment of a new nursery in an area of 20 kanals. He said that during the current financial year, the department intends to plant more than 25 lakh fruit plants in the Jammu province through farmer participation under different schemes and to meet the target, the department requires excellent nursery support, both from private as well as government.
In govt. sector, one mega fruit plant nursery is being established at Chakroi, where three lakh fruit plants are expected to be produced. He appealed farmers to come forward, associate with the department and avail the incentives for establishment and up gradation of nurseries.
The Director Floriculture, his address, urged the nursery owners and entrepreneurs to grow quality flowers, as most of them are also doing flower business, for which the department was providing them seeds.
Later, nursery owners / entrepreneurs also put forth their issues and Director Horticulture ensured them full cooperation and early redressal of their issues.
Further, he informed them that the Jammu Horticulture App is available on android phones and they can also apply online through the app.
