Srinagar : The directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) on Friday observed the National Doctors’ Day across Kashmir hospitals in order to express gratitude to the medical staff for their dedicated services.
Doctors’ Day is celebrated on July 1 every year in the memory of India’s first medical consultant and former Chief Minister of West Bengal – Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, also known as Dr. BC Roy. The legendary figure was also a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and contributed actively to India’s freedom fight.
In his message Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather congratulated the doctors and hailed their contribution in the mitigation of Covid-19 and for providing uninterrupted health care services to people across the valley. “It has been appreciated by one and all including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I take this opportunity to pay my regards and congratulate all doctors on this special day. Be it floods of 2014 or the COVID-19 pandemic doctors have stood out and proved themselves the true warriors and saviours of humanity,” he said. The director said during the Covid-19 pandemic situation, even close relatives of patients were scared of the virus transmission but doctors stood up to the challenge.
“It is our warriors who stood up for the patients at tough times of the worst disease. On this special day I urge all the doctors to continue to work with the same zeal and dedication in future as well. Allah has given us the privilege to serve humanity and made us special for service of humanity,” Dr MA Rather said. Functions were organized in hospitals across Kashmir. The main function of the DHSK was held at Govt. Mini Maternity Centre (MMC) Noorbagh, Srinagar where Assistant Director Health Services, Dr Nishat Shaheen was the chief guest. Deputy Director Dentistry DHSK, Dr Jehanzeb, CMO Srinagar, Dr Jameel Ahmad Mir, Zonal Medical Officers, DIOs, spokesperson DHSK, Dr Mir Mushtaq and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion. At the event, an award distribution ceremony was also held during which many doctors were awarded for their outstanding work.
