5 LeT militants arrested in Srinagar & Sopore: Police

‘Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition recovered’

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that police along with security forces have arrested 05 militants linked with LeT militant outfit in Srinagar & Sopore and also recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition from their possession.
In a statement issued on Thursday Police said that in Srinagar, based on specific input regarding movement of militants in the district, Srinagar Police laid special checkpoints at various locations, stating therein further that on one such checkpoint laid by Police & 50RR on Sanat Nagar Chowk-Rangreth road area, one hybrid militant was arrested.
Stating that incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including a pistol was recovered from his possession, Police in it’s statement further said that on his disclosure during questioning, an anti-militant operation was launched in Pampore area, during which one more hybrid militant was arrested and upon checking arms & ammunition including 03 pistols were recovered from his possession.
Police further said that the duo has been identified as Naveed Shafi Wani son of Mohd Shafi Wani resident of SharShali Khrew Pampore and Faizan Rashid Teli son of Abdul Rashid Teli resident of Kadlabal Pampore.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested duo was involved in transportation of militants, arms/explosive material & providing logistic support to the militants of LeT militant outfit in district Srinagar before as well”, reads the police statement, adding that “Moreover, 06 Pistol magazines, 11 Pistol rounds, 01 Grenade, 16 Gelatin super power sticks, Cortex wire (6 mtsapprox), 08 Detonators have been recovered from their possession”.
Police in its statement further said that a case vide FIR No. 71/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Saddar and further investigation is in progress.
“On a specific input regarding movement of militants in the area, a joint naka established by Police along with Army (52RR) and CRPF (177Bn) at Takyabal Krankshivan intercepted 03 suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot but were tactfully apprehended by the alert joint party and upon checking 01 AK 47 rifle, 02 pistols, 02 magazines, 10 pistol rounds & 01 hand grenade were recovered from their possession”, reads the police statement, adding that “ the accused have been identified as Rahid Mushtaq Ganie son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie& Amir Shafqat Mir son of Mohammad Shafi Mir, both residents of Amargarh and Tahir Nisar Sheikh Son of Nisar Ahmad Sheikh resident of Baag-e-Rehmat, Sopore”.
Police said that preliminary investigation revealed that the trio are uncategorised militants of LeT militant outfit and were in constant search of an opportunity to carry out militant attacks in the area and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tarzoo and further investigation is in progress.
