Srinagar: The administration of J&K Union Territory has constituted a high-level committee for appointment of ombudsperson under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for redressal of grievances and disposal of complaints in it.
The committee headed by the Financial Commissioner Agriculture Production Department has been mandated to recommend selection of ombudsperson in each district of J&K Union Territory.
According to an order issued by J&K Government the committee has been mandated to recommend termination of ombudsperson from his/ her person in case of unsatisfactory performance.
The selection committee will have administrative secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, representative of Union Ministry of Rural Development and an eminent civil society person to be nominated by the Union Ministry of Rural Development as members.
As per the order, the quorum for the meeting of the selection committee shall be considered fulfilled only if either the representative of the Union Ministry of Rural Development or the representative of the civil society organization.
As per section 30 under MGNREGA, the states/ UTs are mandated to appoint an ombudsperson for each district for receiving grievances, enquiring and passing awards under the scheme
