JKPCC conducts Interactive Workshop on E-waste Mgmt Rules

Jammu: A one day Interactive workshop was Friday conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) regarding “Implementation of EPR and Action Plan under E-waste Management Rules, 2016 in strategic partnership with Producer Responsibility Organization RLG Systems India Pvt. Ltd.
The objective of the workshop was to deliberate upon the current scenario of EPR implementation in J&K and status of implementation of Action Plan under E-waste Rules and to have a common platform for discussion among the regulators and concerned stakeholders including implementing agencies, viz., District Administration, Local Bodies, Department of Industry & Commerce and Department of Labour to ensure effective implementation of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directions.
The Regional Director, JKPCC, Sat Paul welcomed all the participants and briefed about the objective of the Interactive workshop.
Dr. Kumar, M.K, Member Secretary, JKPCC in his address stressed upon that mass awareness at the level of consumers and bulk consumers regarding hazards of unscientific disposal of e-waste and collection system put in place by Producers should be carried out in consistent manner, in which JKPCC shall be always there to collaborate and extend best possible help.
Dr.Neelu Gera, Chairperson, JKPCC appreciated the efforts of JKPCC for organizing such interactive workshops and expressed her gratitude to all participants including producers for their participation through Online as well as Offline. She impressed upon all stakeholders to ensure compliance of relevant Rules, guidelines and Hon’ble NGT directions in matters pertaining to E-waste collection and disposal in a scientific manner.
She further stressed upon Producers and respective PROs for working out strategies for ensuring efficient collection of e-waste and disposal in line with NGT directions. Site asked for a collaborative approach towards enforcement of NGT directions to curb informal trading of E-waste by respective Chairman, District Environment Committees and ULBs in collaboration with JKPCC.
Detailed presentations were made by Producer Responsibility Organizations, RLG Systems India Pvt. Ltd. and Ramsetu Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., with focus on EPR implementation and role/achievements of respective PROs in-E-waste Management. Vote of thanks was presented by J.N. Sharma, EE JKPCC.
The workshop was also attended by Dr.Sunaina Sharma. Dr..Komal Sharma and PrateekPanjathia, Functional Managers, Department of Industries and Commerce, Raj Kumar Bhagat, AEE, Department of Labour, Neelu Sharma, Principal Scientific Officer, JKPCC, NeerajUpadhayay, Team leader SBM, JMC, Divisional officers of Jammu and Kashmir, Scientists, JKPCC, Anuradha, Nodal Officer E-waste, JKPCC, Jammu, Producer Responsibility Organizations, viz. Saahas, Global E-waste Solutions, Exigo Recycling, Pro-connect and Shivalik.
