Training Prog on Bio-Medical devices begins at NIT

Srinagar: A week-long Short Term Training Program (STTP) on Bio-medical devices: design and manufacturing began on Thursday at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar.
The training program is being organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering and is sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. A. M. Bhat, Former Principal, Regional Engineering College (REC), now NIT Srinagar, while Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) RakeshSehgal was ‘Guest of Honor’ on the occasion.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. Bhat said the campus has completely transformed into an educational hub. NIT Srinagar is a leading institute in north India not only in terms of skill-oriented education but placements as well, he said.
“I am overwhelmed to see the campus after the gap of many years. From classrooms to modern laboratories there is development everywhere. I congratulate Director Prof.RakeshSehgal and Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari for making NIT Srinagar a vibrant campus,” he said.
Prof. Bhat said the development of facilities in India rather than importing foreign technology will improve the growth of the country.
On the occasion, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof.Sehgal said the development of institution is more important than the development of individuals. We are committed to serve society through technology and ease the living of common people, he said.
Prof.Sehgal intended that the end-use of education is to give back to society in the form of solutions to various problems. There is a need for such workshops for all-round development of skills and knowledge for the participants, he said.
Director also highlighted the collaboration with various institutes across the country especially the ongoing project with SKIMS Srinagar.
Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari appreciated the organizers for conducting workshops on a relevant theme. He said these sessions are the need of the hour and will explore more in-depth knowledge for the participants.
“We need to develop and test solutions; predict outcomes and mitigate harm and make informed policy decisions,” he said.
Prof. Bukhari said research and innovation are critical for generating new knowledge, building new infrastructure, and educating innovators and entrepreneurs.
In the inaugural address, Dean Research & Consultancy, Prof. (HAG) M.F.Wani congratulated the Director NIT Srinagar Prof.Sehgal, HOD MED, and coordinators for choosing a relevant theme for the workshop, that is the need of the hour.
“We must always do something for the people, society in all the good ways we can,” he said.
HOD, MED, S. Nazir Ahmad said the department is lucky that they have the facility of Rapid prototyping, so far as its field is concerned. It is an advanced technique of manufacturing.
“There are lots of challenges in rapid prototyping at present, of course, researchers and manufacturers have to overcome those limitations,” he said.
Earlier, Dr. Sheikh Gulam Mohammed said the course is designed to cater to the needs of doctors, teachers, scientists from R & D houses, and labs to make a revolution in medical treatment.
Head, Information Technology Dept. Dr.Shabir Ahmad Sofi was the Chairman and Convener of the event.
Head, Mechanical Engg. DeptProf. Sheikh Nazir Ahmad and Dr. Mohammad Mursaleen were coordinators. Dr. Sandeep Rathee and Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran were co-coordinators of the program.
The organizing committee includes Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Muhammad, Mr.Saboor Fayaz Lone, Mr.Imran, Mr.ShazmanNabi, Mr.Basant Kumar, Mr.Avinash, Mr.Shazman, Mr.Basanth, and Ms.Ayna.
A vote of thanks was delivered by the Coordinator, Dr.M.Mursaleen. He also explained to the students about the evaluation pattern of the workshop and eligibility for successful completion. The inaugural session was moderated and hosted by Dr. Dinesh Kumar R from NIT Srinagar.
Resource persons for the course are highly experienced faculty members from reputed institutes like IITs, NITs, and research organizations.
