DSEJ organises awareness session on ‘Yoga for Mental Health’

Jammu: In its weekly programme ‘AaoBaatKarein, Directorate of School Education Jammu organized a session on Yoga for Mental health in which Mohini Sharma, PrantiyeSadasya, BhartiyaYogSansthan was the key speaker.
Dr.Romesh Sharma, Counselling Cell DSEJ, in his opening remarks, highlighted the importance of Yoga and said that in the present scenario when our children are struggling with various mental health issues and are in dire need of counseling services, Yoga plays a pivotal role in keeping them in good mental health state. He appreciated the help and guidance provided by the BhartiyaYogSansthan Jammu in keeping the people hale and hearty.
Mohini Sharma, the key speaker of the programme laid emphasis on practicing Yoga in day- to-day life. She said that regular yoga practice creates clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind and sharpens concentration. She further said that it lowers stress hormones in our bodies while simultaneously increasing beneficial brain chemicals like endorphins and GABA. These feel good chemicals help decrease anxiety and improve mood. She also satisfied the various queries raised by the viewers regarding duration of practicing yoga session, diet complementing a daily yoga regime, better posture in asanas, improving memory, improving concentration, etc. She stressed upon performing Bhramari, Anulom-Vilom, Kapalbharti, pranayamasanas for improving mental health.
Dr.Alka Sharma, Counseling Cell DSEJ moderated the programme.
