Anantnag: Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Anantnag and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Monday police said that a police party headed by SHO PS Utrasoo at a checkpoint established at CheerporaUtrasoo intercepted a Load Carrier bearing registration number JK02CH-2707 with two persons on board and upon checking 40Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the said vehicle. Stating that the accused have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhat son of Hameedulla Bhat resident of MagamKokernag and Shabir Ahmad Khan son of Dula Khan Resident of WanighamKokernag, police in it’s statement said that the above named accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
“Police party from Police Station Achabal arrested one drug peddler identified as Nissar Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Ahsan Bhat resident of Khoshi Pora Achabal along with about 12.3Kgs of Poppy Straw”, reads the police statement, adding that “He (Nisar Ahmad Bhat) has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation set into motion.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt strictly as per law.
