4 militants killed in ongoing gunfights in North, South Kashmir areas: Police

Srinagar: At least 4 militants have been killed in the ongoing gunfights in Kupwara and Kulgam districts of the Kashmir Valley, police said here.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that encounter broke out in Lolab area of Kupwara district following disclosure by an arrested militant Showkat Ahmad Sheikh.

He said that during search of hideouts hiding militants fired upon joint search parties and their team also retaliated, in which one militant got killed.

The official also added that the arrested militant also got trapped and in the ensuing encounter one more militant was killed.

“Two militants have been killed in the encounter, while heavy exchange of fire was going on,” he said, adding that further details will be shared accordingly.

Meanwhile, another gunfight broke out in D H Pora area of Kulgam district following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

An official said that in the ensuing encounter two militants have been killed so far, while operation was going on.

The official identified the slain militants as Haris Sharief of Srinagar, a C category militant of LeT outfit and Zakir Padder of Kulgam, a C category militant of JeM outfit. (KNS)
