Kupwara: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir Saturday convened a meeting to review the progress of Red Cross activities in the district and to form a road map for collection of Red Cross fund.
The meeting held threadbare discussion with regard to collection of donations for the Red Cross Fund and the DC received suggestions from district officers to increase the contributions towards the Red Cross voluntary fund.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the contribution towards the Red Cross is used for immediate relief to people suffering from fire incidents, fatal diseases, destitute and needy persons. He urged upon all stakeholders to voluntarily contribute towards the Red Cross fund against proper receipt.
The meeting suggested various norms to increase the contributions which include a monthly contribution of Rs.100 for Gazetted officers and Rs.50 for Non-gazetted officers.
The meeting was informed that the Education department will contribute 50 percent of the Red Cross fund from 38000 students on roll from Class 9 to 12th towards the District Red Cross fund within 15 days.
During the course of the meeting, it was decided that the 16 digit Account number of District Cross Fund Kupwara (1225040510000014) be publicised so as to facilitate the people who want to contribute voluntarily.
The DC asked ARTO Kupwara, Municipalities and Engineering departments to contribute towards the Red Cross as per the guidelines from the beneficiaries of different categories.
It was given out in the meeting that there is an utmost need to train Red Cross volunteers, covering all the areas of the district especially disaster prone and vulnerable areas so that they can extend their help in times of exigencies.
The DC directed the Chief Medical Officer who is also Treasurer of the Red Cross Fund to make a calendar in consultation with concerned Tehsildars and Education department for carrying out activities adding that the efforts and intentions should be visible so that the people know more about the importance of Red Cross.
He also directed for notifying the advertisement of the Executive Secretary as per the guidelines so that activities could be carried out in a vibrant manner.
ADC Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir; ASP Handwara, ACR, SDM Lolab and District Officers attended the meeting.
