Rajnath Singh to visit J&K today

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Jammu and Kashmir today on Thursday. He will go to forward areas and interact with troops during the visit.

“Tomorrow, 16th June, I would be in Jammu and Kashmir for a two day visit. I shall be visiting forward areas and interacting with troops during my visit,” the Minister said in a tweet.

“Also, I shall attend the 200th anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh Ji’s Rajya bhishek Ceremony in Jammu on 17th June, Friday,” the Minister added.

Senior military commander are scheduled to brief Rajnath Singh about overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and along the border, sources said.

The security forces have intensified anti militancy operations in the Valley in the last couple of weeks following increasing attacks on innocent civilians particularly on Hindus.

A total of 105 militants have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir this year till Wednesday. As per the data, nearly 30 per cent of the killed militants were foreigners.

The Minister’s visit also assumes significance amid growing security concerns ahead of Amarnath Yatra. The 43-day long Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir is set to begin on June 30.
