Navsari: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that those who were in power for the longest span of time since independence, never made development their priority.
During the ‘Gujarat Gaurav Abhiyan’ in Navsari, a tribal-dominated area of Gujarat, Modi said “Our poor, Dalit, deprived Backward classes, tribal women, all of them used to spend their whole life just in fulfilling their basic needs.
“For a long period after independence, those who were in power for the longest duration, did not make development their priority.
“They did not develop the areas and those sections which needed it the most, because it takes more effort to do this work,” he added.
He said those villages which were most deprived, even bereft of pucca roads, the poor families of those areas have got a pucca house, electricity, toilet and gas connection in eight years. Most of the beneficiaries are tribals and Dalits, he added.
Most deprived of pure drinking water were the villages, poor, the tribals. If there was a campaign of vaccination, it used to take years till the villages, poor and tribal areas would get it.
Speaking in Gujarati, the Prime Minister asked people to tell in Gujarati, whether everyone got vaccinated, whether everyone got it for free or not.
He said in the last eight years, following the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ the government has given utmost emphasis on the welfare of poor, especially on providing basic facilities to them.
