Dr Samoon inspects Govt Polytechnic for Women Shiv Nagar, Polytechnic Bikram Chowk in Jmu

Jammu: Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr.Asgar Hassan Samoon, Thursday visited Government Polytechnic for Women Lower Shiv Nagar Jammu to enquire about the trainings program being provided to the students in the institutions in different courses like stitching, beautician, phulkari arts and others.
Principal Secretary was informed about the working and courses being offered to students in the polytechnic. He was apprised that at present the Polytechnic offers 3 years diploma program in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Office Management and Computer Applications, Textile Designing and Medical Lab Technology. Besides, all these courses have been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to J&K Board of Technical Education (BOTE).
He was further informed that all the staff members have been trained in latest technologies in various fields of engineering, technology and management and all labs have been modernized by procuring state of art equipment besides the library has been strengthened by procuring adequate number of books. Besides, the Polytechnic has been authorized by MHRD Government of India to uplift the rural and urban slum women by offering them non formal skill development training program, transfer of technology, technical and other support services under Community Development through Polytechnic scheme.
Principal, Government Polytechnic for Women Jammu, NeelanjanaManwati, briefed that for effective implementation of this scheme, the institution has set up various extension centers in rural areas in addition to the main centre in the institution and at present we are imparting the skill development courses of six months in different trades including printing and graphic arts, computer operator, composite electrician, textile design and painting, plumbing/sanitary fitting, garment design and beautician courses.
Later, Principal Secretary also chaired an event organized by the institution where in students gave motivational lectures on importance and need of skill development programs for job creation.
Dr Samoon said that the main objective of Skill India program is to provide adequate training in market relevant skills to the youths besides creating opportunities for development of talent within the country and improve the overall scope and space for under developed sectors.
Dr Samoon also distributed the certificates among the students who have completed their trainings under IRG scheme.
Later, Dr.Samoon also visited Government Polytechnic, BikramChowkJammu and inspected various sections of the institution besides interacting with the students there.
On the occasion, students of final year demonstrated various projects including Basohli Painting and Fashion Designing.
Principal Secretary appreciated the projects done by the students under the guidance of Principal of the polytechnic, Engineer RituJamwal.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary visited Center for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT) Jammu and congratulated the Principal, Government Polytechnic Jammu for conducting courses at CIIIT Jammu successfully.
He also inspected the ongoing construction work on Boys Hostel and directed PWD (R&B) to expedite the same for completion at the earliest.
Principal Secretary distributed certificates among the NSS students who participated in the recent event organized in the institution. He inaugurated a Volley-ball match played between Green and Blue teams organized by the sports wing of the institution.
