Jammu: A Dry-land Farmer Tirth Ram son of Munshi Ram promoted by SKUAST-Jammu of the adopted village DeraGanotra (Tarore) has been conferred Best Dry-land Farmer Award at the inauguration of XXVII Biennial Workshop of All India Coordinated Research Project for Dryland Agriculture (ICAR), Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad.
Tirth Ram has bagged the award for adoption of the improved rain-fed technologies which include varietal replacement, diversification of crops, Livestock care and management along with moisture conservation Technologies.
Prof J. P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu lauded the achievement of AICRPDA-Advanced Centre for Rain-fed Agriculture, RakhDhiansar Team and boosted their morale for many more such achievements in near future. He also congratulated Tirth Ram for bringing laurels to SKUAST-Jammu as well as to Jammu and Kashmir.
It is worth mentioning that All India Coordinated Research Project forDryland Agriculture (AICRPDA), RakhDhiansar SKUAST –Jammu is Sub –Centre of AICRPDA, CRIDA (ICAR) and serves as a nodal centre to cater to the research activities and technological requirements of rain-fed areas of Jammu region extending from Akhnoor to Kathua districts of the region.
Under the RIFS component of AICRPDA, a village namely DeraGanotra (Tarore), Tehsil Bari Brahmana, District Samba has been adopted to strengthen the existing traditional Rainfed Integrated Farming Systems (RIFS) and in this respect, different technological innovations under different modules viz NRM Module, Crop Module, Livestock modules have been demonstrated since 2016 -17.
