B’pora: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad on Wednesday inaugurated a vaccine cold storage facility of Sheep Husbandry department at Sheep Husbandry Complex Konan, Bandipora.
Dr Owais said it isthe first such district-level facility for storage of vaccines that will ease the vaccination process of livestock especially in higher altitude pastures of the district.
He said the Vaccine Cold Storage facilityhas been developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 8.5 lakhs under CSS SCA to TSP with storage capacity of 18 thousand litres.
Dr.Owais said, it was a longpending demand of the livestock farmers of the District which has been addressed.
He said the sheep farming plays a pivotal role in the rural economy in the J&K with Bandipora being no exception. He said large number of farmers in district Bandipora are solely dependent on sheep production for earning their livelihood.
DSHO apprised the DC that the cold storage facility will ensure proper storage of vaccines within the temperature range of 2 to 8 centigrade and is a first of its kind at the District level in the entire J&K in sheep Husbandry sector
The DC applauded the efforts of DSHO, Bandipora Dr Showkat Ahmad for creating ecosystem for vaccine storage in the District andcarrying out mass vaccination campaign across the District especially in Border area of Gurez.
