5 gamblers held in Srinagar, Stake money seized: Police

Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested five gamblers in two separate actions in Srinagar and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Saturday police said that following an input about gambling activities, a police party of PS Khanyar raided a gambling site at CholaMohallaKhanyar and arrested two gamblers who were identified as Arif Ahmad Chola resident of Aram Masjid Khanyar and Arshid Ahmad Mir resident of Konakhan, stating therein further that officers have seized stake money of ₹12,300/- playing cards and 4 mobile phones from the gamblers. Police in it’s statement however further said that 4 gamblers namely Shabir Ahmad Chola, Hilal Ahmad Chola both residents of CholaMohalla, Gowher Ahmad Halwai resident of AnderwariNaidkadal and Gulzar Ahmad Bhat resident of Eidgah managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to nab the absconding gamblers.
“During the preliminary investigation, the arrested gamblers revealed that stake money of more than ₹2 lakh was taken along by the escaped gamblers”, reads police statement, adding that “In another action, officers from PS Bemina raided a gambling site near JVC Hospital and arrested three gamblers identified as Mukhtar Ah Fafoo resident of Boatman Colony, Amir Ah Kahloo and Shakeel Ahmad Misri both residents of Mansoor Coloney”, stating therein further that “Officers have seized stake money of ₹3,450/- and playing cards from the gamblers”.
Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding gambling activities in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in gambling activities will be dealt as per law.
