Shopian: In an act of enmity in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, miscreants caused a loss of lakhs of rupees to a fish farmer on Thursday by allegedly poisoning his fish farm.

According to the reports in Narapura area of Shopian district, unidentified persons put poisonous chemical in a fish farm which resulted in death of about 4000 fish in the farm.

Hilal Ahmed, who owns the fish farm, said he preferred fish farming over government job and only last year he set up a fish farm and started a fish business. Late last evening, unidentified persons mixed some toxic chemicals in this farm due to which (4 thousand) fish present in the farm were killed.

The said owner had decided to start sale of the fish in coming days for the first time since the establishment of this fish farm, however, before creating a sale point, some unknown persons allegedly put some poisonous substance into the said fish farm resulting in the death of huge number of fish causing huge financial losses to the owner.

An official said that prima facie it seems an act of mischief committed by someone on the basis of personal animosity with a design to cause major financial losses to the owner.
