Kupwara : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today convened a meeting of District Skill Committee (DSC) here, to discuss the formulation of revised District Skill Development Action Plan under Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP), a programme of the Ministry of Skill Development, Government of India.
The meeting held threadbare discussion with regard to finalization of revised plan for current financial year.
The DC stressed upon all stakeholders to work in tandem and prepare revised Skill Development plan according to the ground realityof the district. He asked them to take traditional as well as innovative andprogramming/ software training courses hand in hand so that youth from all categories could be covered and benefited.
Khalid Jahangirstressed the need for developingwalnut as signature product of the district under One District One Product (ODOP) programmeand directed concerned officers to promote training courses relating to this product. He also stressed for development of beekeeping as second signature product of the district.
Other concerned officers also put up their suggestions for incorporating different training courses according to their departmental values, which include plumbing, Tourism and Hospitality, Horticulture activities etc.
The DC said skill development is the basic component which can overcome unemployment in the district.
He stressed upon the officers to ensure that all methods are employed so that there is an easy access for unemployed youth to skill development programmes. He also exhorted the youth to come forward and take advantage of the Government schemes aimed at providing employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of the district.
He urged all concerned officers to work with coordination so that better and desirable results could be yielded at ground level.
Earlier, the DC was briefed about new strategies of the SANKALP through power point presentation. He was informed that the fresh proposal is revival of Heritage Crafts for Livelihood Generation including Pottery, Wood Carving and Hand Embroidery. He was informed that expected number of beneficiaries is 1500 from the district.
Among others, JD Planning, Principal Polytechnic College Kupwara, Superintendents of various ITIs, DIO, Officers from different departments and other concerned attended the meeting.
