The operation was in progress and searches were underway in the forward area of Darshan Post at the time of filing of this report.
In a statement issued on Friday the police stated that an infiltration bid was foiled in Tangdar Sector of district Kupwara by killing one foreign militant and recovery of huge cache of narcotics and arms/ammunition from his possession.
“At about 9 am, a group of heavily armed militants attempted to infiltrate in Tangdhar Sector of Kupwara and subsequently were challenged by the alert troops deployed on LoC. However, the militant opened fire on the troops which was retaliated effectively resulting in elimination of one militant on spot. The other militant is believed to have got injured and escaped from the spot; however search is going on to trace him,” the statement said.

“Alert troops on the Anti-infiltration grid intercepted two Militants trying to infiltrate into own side in the forward area close to the Line of Control. The two intruding militants were fired upon, leading to elimination of one Militant, while grievously injuring the other. However, the injured Militant managed to flee to PoJK side, taking advantage of darkness. A thorough search operation launched in the morning resulted in recovery of the slain militant, two AK series rifles, two pistols, two grenades along with 10 packets of narcotics,” the army said.
