Srinagar : Chairman People’s Democratic Front ( PDF ) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has expressed serious concern over skyrocketing price rise of essential commodities and building materials. He has urged the government to ensure distribution of foodgrains at affordable prices to the people especially belonging to the economically weaker sections ( EWS) and middle class people of the society adding that interests of consumers should be protected at all costs in the proposed process of modifications in the existing food distribution system .
In a statement issued on Friday Hakeem said that skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and building materials have broken the backbone of common people who need to be provided special concessions in the form of subsidies. He has urged the Center to ensure hassle free distribution of food grains and building materials at affordable prices to the people through government distribution network including ration depos . He has urged the government to take effective measures to check the alarming level of increase in the prices of essential commodities and building materials. He said proposed changes in the existing food distribution system should in no way put more burdens on poor consumers . He has demanded enhanced subsidy on essential commodities and building materials for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS )of the society .
PDF Chairman has enjoined upon the authorities to act tough against profiteers and black marketers to check unabated price hike in the market . He said government should also consider transport and freight subsidy on essential supplies to lower the prices of food grains and building materials.
Hakeem has rued the concerned authorities for miserably failing miserably get hold of unscrupulous shopkeepers and traders who , he said , were ruling the roost in the market at their sweet will. He has called for extensive and effective market checking to contain unabated price rise in the market.
