Srinagar: World Hypertension Day 2022 was observed across all health facilities of Kashmir on the directions of Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather. The theme of this years’ day was “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer”.
Speaking at an event held at the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, the Director stressed upon the need of prevention and early diagnosis of hypertension to prevent the various complications and for leading a healthy life.
World Hypertension Day is marked as a day focused on creating awareness about Hypertension and its symptoms.
Dr MA Rather said that screening facilities and diagnostic tests are available at all NCD clinics in district and sub-district hospitals and in addition, these facilities are also available at all Primary Health Centres and health and wellness centres.
During the day special awareness camps were held under the NCD program throughout the valley and people were given awareness how to fight hypertension.
Over a billion people around the globe live with hypertension which is a major cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide.
While hypertension was usually seen as a health condition found in older people, it has now become quite common in the younger population.
As per doctors high-stress levels, obesity, poor dietary habits, and a sedentary lifestyle are some of the major causes of hypertension in young people.
Prolonged hypertension also puts a person at a higher risk of several medical conditions like chronic kidney disease, stroke, heart failure and others.
