2 timber smugglers held in Budgam, Illicit timber seized: Police

B’gam : Police on Monday said that it has arrested 2 timber smugglers in Budgam and also seized illicit timber at the Rathsun crossing area of budgam.
According to a police statement, Police party of Police Station Beerwah at a checkpoint established at Rathsun crossing intercepted a vehicle (Load Carrier) bearing registration number JK13E-8766 and during checking, 39 logs of illegal timber were found in the vehicle. “Two smugglers on board were arrested on spot and identified as Siraj-u-Din Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat & Sajad Ahmed Bhat son of Sona-ullah Bhat both residents of RathsunBeerwah”, reads the police statement, stating therein further that “ the said accused have been shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody & vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized”.
Police in its statement further said that a case FIR No. 56/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation has been taken up. In the concluding para of its statement police warned that people found indulging in antisocial activities will be dealt with as per law.
