DC Kathua reviews status of Jal Shakti, PMGSY projects

DM also calls for full potential usage of existing water supply schemes

Kathua : Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Pandey Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the status of projects being executed by different wings of Jal Shakti department in different parts of the district.
At the outset, Superintendent Engineer, Hydraulic gave a presentation on the working of PHE (Civil), PHE (Mech) and PHE (Ground Water), Irrigation and Flood Control functioning under the umbrella of Jal Shakti department.
The DC was apprised that the district faces a shortfall of drinking water and to meet the gap, the department has proposed 299 retro-filling schemes for the current financial year under JalJeevan Mission.
The DC impressed upon the need to improve the water availability scenario by working on the existing assets to tap their full potential usage besides focusing on augmentation to meet drinking water needs of the people.
He directed officers to identify highly challenged areas and work out a well-knit plan to meet the water needs of the people amid peak summer times.
Reviewing the achievements under the Flood Control sector, the DC laid thrust on formulating a comprehensive contingency plan by taking all stakeholders on board to deal with any flood situation during the rainy season.
It was given out in the meeting that 23 works have been taken by the Irrigation department under district capex for the current fiscal.
The DC reviewed the progress of works taken up under District Capex, NABARD, B2V, JalJeevan mission, languishing projects and district Capex.
The DC directed the XENs to pace up the speed to complete all works in a time bound manner. He also called for removing bottlenecks to achieve maximum target works within stipulated time.
Meanwhile, reviewing the PMGSY sector, the DC directed the concerned officers to take up the matter of pending forest clearance with concerned authority to expedite the work of the road projects proposed for different areas of the district.
The DC called upon the officers to execute all works under different schemes in a transparent and time bound manner.
