Udhampur : With an aim to attract tourists and promote the local culture and heritage of the District Udhampur, Directorate of Tourism Jammu, in collaboration with District Administration, Thursday organised the Jammu Heritage Festival here at historical Ramnagar Fort.
A series of cultural and other events marked the day-long event.
The people thronged the Heritage exhibition, Food and departmental stalls. They also enjoyed a scintillating cultural and music show featuring Dogri folk Dances, Celebrity performances, Storytelling, Sufi music and songs, Rap battle, performances of live rock band, Classical dance fusion, Dogri folk danceby renowned artists.
District Development Council Chairman, UdhampurLal Chand was the Chief Guest at the Cultural program.
Enthralling cultural and musical performances by popular artists and famous singers of Jammu Division were highly appreciated by the audiences with repeated rounds of applause.Earlier, a Heritage walk was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, UdhampurInduKanwalChibin presence of BDCs, DDCs andofficers of Tourism and other departments.
While briefing the media, the DC said that the main objective of organizing this heritage festival was to attract tourist footfall to the area. She added that the Ramnagar fort, with a glorious history, can emerge as a potential heritage tourist destination. The DC thanked the Tourism department for organizing the heritage festival and stressed upon promotion of tourismactivities in the area to create employment avenues for the local people. She also congratulated the people of the area and added that the unique initiative by the J & K government aims to promote the tourism potential of the places which offers a blend of leisure, adventure and religious tourism.
