Forest fire brought under Control in Sewna area: DC Udhampur

Udhampur : Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Indu Kanwal Chib Monday visited Block Sewna where she interacted with the PRIs and local people to get first hand appraisal about the fire that broke out in the dense forest adjoining four Panchayats of the area.
Block Development Council Chairman, Sewna, Subash Chander; DDC Councilor, Narsoo, Subash Chander; Divisional Forest Officer, Udhampur Shaveta Jandial, Tehsildar Chenani besides other officials accompanied the DC.
Pertinent to mention here that a massive fire broke out a few days back in Forests adjoining four Panchayats of Block Sewna which included Sewna, Charat, Ossu and Pakhlai. The IAF personnel also joined the dousing operation.
After receiving the information about the fire incident, a team comprising Forest, Police and SDRF, besides local volunteers rushed to the area and started the dousing operation with modern equipment. After hectic efforts of the team and IAF the fire in Sewna forest area was brought under Control.
The DC hailed the efforts of IAF for its help in dousing the forest fire. She added that the fire situation has been brought under control after a long operation with the help of IAF.
The DC appealed to the public to cooperate with the Forest department and keep check on activities which ignite fire. “Strict action as per the law will be initiated against those who are found involved in the fire incidents” she warned.
The PRIs were asked to identify those who are directly involved in such an act, while Tehsildar was directed to submit a detailed report in this regard. The DC asked the PRIs to hold meetings with the general public regarding fire incidents and sensitise them about the preventive measures.
