Horticulture Deptt hosts Buyer-Seller Kissan meet at Fruit Mandi Udhampur

Udhampur : As part of the celebration of AzadiKaAmrutMahotsav, Department of Horticulture, organised a Buyer-Seller Kissan Meet under ‘Bhagidari PrathmiktaHamari’ programme at Fruit MandiUdhampur.
A large number of orchardists, entrepreneurs and traders of District Udhampur participated in the meet.
Chief Horticulture Officer, S.K Gupta held interaction with the participants with regard to various issues of orchardists. He emphasised on quality fruit production with the use of modern techniques available with the department.
The orchardists were also educated about different measures being undertaken by the department for betterment of fruit growers. He asked the fruit growers to adopt timely spray schedule, training/pruning of fruit plants and use of balanced dose of manures/fertilisers in their orchards to improve the quantity and quality of their produce in order to get profitable returns.
At the onset, District Level-Subject Matter Specialist, Udhampur gave a detailed lecture on importance of better marketing channels for profitable returns. Discussion was also held on different measures to increase the income of orchardists. Soil testing, pest/disease control practices and use of bio-fertilizers/bio-pesticides in order to promote organic cultivation of fruits were also underlined by the specialist.
Area Marketing Officer, Udhampur also spoke on the occasion and emphasised on use of better packaging and branding techniques for getting good returns of the produce.
