05 drug peddlers arrested in Kupwara, Budgam & Kulgam, contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar :Police on Saturday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kupwara, Budgam & Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Saturday police said that in Kupwara, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in two separate actions. “Acting on specific information regarding drug peddling in Diver Kadiwan area, a police party led by SHO Police Station Lalpora raided the specific spot and arrested two drug peddlers identified as Saqib Nazir Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat and Asif Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad Wani both residents of Diver Lolab and upon checking officers recovered 200 grams of Charas like substance from their possession”, reads the police statement.
Stating further that in another action, a police party led by SHO PS Kupwara along withthe Executive Magistrate arrested a drug peddler near B Ed College Drugmulla after receiving information about the drug trade in the area, police in it’s statement further said that the said drug peddler has been identified as Beedar Ahmad Mir son of Gulam Rasool Mir resident of Jaggarpora, stating therein further that Officers recovered 300 grams of Charas like substance from his possession following which they have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.
Polic further said that in Budgam, a police party of Police Station Budgam during daily routine checking at Bathar Budgam intercepted a vehicle (ZEN) bearing registration number JKO1J-1987 driven by one person identified as Adil Manzoor Paul@ Zaffer son of Manzoor Ahmed Paul resident of Narkara Budgam and upon checking 6.40 grams of Heroin was recovered from his possession. Stating that the said accused been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police in it’s statement furthermore said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating further that in Kulgam, officers from PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Vessbatapora intercepted one person who was roaming in suspicious condition and upon checking 08Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession, police in it’s statement said that the said accused has been identified as Mashooq Ahmad Hella son of Abdul Rashid Hella resident of Vesbatpora, Kulgam, stating therein further that the accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation set into motion.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
