DHSK inaugurates Health Mela at Nagam Chadoora

Srinagar : Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather on Wednesday inaugurated Block Health Mela at Ngam Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district which was attended by officers and officials of the health department.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Budgam, Dr Tajamul Hussan Khan, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Nagam Dr Rohi Iqbal, Principal GDC Nagam, District Food Safety Officer Budgam besides other officers and officials of health department senior citizens were also present on the occasion.
A number of people were examined by doctors and specialists. Teams of doctors, pharmacists, field staff and paramedics at the Mela provided free consultations to people.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director said that the main aim of the health mela is to generate awareness among the general public. Dr MA Rather stressed on doctors and paramedical staff and incharge of the different schemes to make it sure that each and every person in the community comes to know about the various benefits of the health care schemes.
The Health Melas are being held with regard to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare which has adopted a strategy of organizing Health Melas to provide health education, and early diagnosis besides providing health care services, free of cost.
On the occasion, the director said it is important to organize such programs to connect general public and make them aware about the beneficial schemes of the health department.
“It is very important to have preventive measures at homes as we do not eat food properly and do not go for exercise properly due to which NCDs have increased,” he said.
Dr MA Rather said awareness is very essential for the people and by these camps people get to know about the facilities and also about hidden diseases which they are not aware of. He said screening helps in longer way in the early identification of different diseases.
All diagnostic tests and medicines were offered free of cost in the Mela and awareness was given to public about NCD, RBSK, Yoga, Drug Deaddiction, RTI, Cancer Screening and other Health related Schemes.
During the Mela, Consultation and Diagnostic services were provided to people. Screening of children was performed by the RBSK Teams.
On-the-spot treatment was also given and free medicines were provided to the needy children. Children were also given awareness regarding health and hygiene.
Students of Peace School and Government Girls Higher Secondary School presented various cultural programs which were highly appreciated by the audience.
The cultural programs raised awareness about the various programs and schemes of the government meant for the welfare of the general public.
Health Melas and fairs are held to provide information on wellness behaviour, preventive measures for diseases along with healthcare services for early detection and treatment of diseases, have been found to be popular with the masses.
These programs are being organized across hospitals of DHSK to spread the message to the general public informing them about the various health programs of the government.
