Ramban : In view of Holy Ramadan & forthcoming festival season, the enforcement agencies Monday intensified market checking drive across Ramban district here on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Mussarat Islam.
The teams headed by concerned Tehsildars inspected markets within their jurisdiction and booked several erring shopkeepers found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expired products besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products.
A joint team, comprising NaibTehsildarBanihal, FCS&CA, Legal Metrology Department and Police carried out a surprise check in main bazaar Banihal and recovered Rs 4600 as fine from defaulters. Similar checking was also conducted by the NaibTehsildar in Batote Market.
The teams also destroyedspoilage fruits and vegetables. The shopkeepers, Dabawales and vendors were directed to maintain hygiene and quality of eatables and also ensure display of price list.
Designated Officer, Food Safety Department, Ramban, Farid Beg, inspected the Gool marketto check the quality of food and edible products like milk and milk products, sweets, meat, chicken, fruits and vegetables etc.
