Bandipora, : On directions of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmed, a jointmarket checking squad of Revenue, Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Food Safety and police held a market checking in Sumbal market and realized a fine of Rs 2700 from erring shopkeepers.
Taking strong note of the complaints of over-pricing during the holy month, the district administration launched a massive district-wide inspection drive to curb over-pricing and take immediate action against instances of violations.
Theteams conducted inspection of various business establishments including vegetable, fruit sellers, Meat Shops, Kiryana, Bakery, hotels and other vendors at Sumbal. During the inspection, 03 shops were sealed for over -pricing and selling food items in unsanitary conditions besides several traders were bookedfor violation of various laws.
On the occasion, Officers stressed on the traders to avoid over-pricing and other illegal and unethical practices and urged them to follow the rules in letter and spirit. They also asked the vendors to follow the packaged commodity rules and other Metrology Acts.
They said that the drive will continue on a regular basis across the district to keep a check on traders and shopkeepers for indulging in overcharging and other unethical activities.
Similar market checking drive was also held at DawerGurezand a fine of Rs.1450 was realized from the erring shopkeepers.
