Srinagar : A one-day seminar on “Dr Ambedkar as a Social reformer and architect of Indian Constitution” was organised by the Department of English, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri to pay homage to the architect of the Indian Constitution. Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice-Chancellor BGSBU congratulated the department for organizing the seminar.
Terming BabasahebDr.Ambedkar as the most eminent intellectual figures of modern India, Prof. Akbar said that Dr.Ambedkar showed the enlightening path for Indian society via his ideals of freedom, equality and fraternity and made India a democratic country.
The programme started with a welcome address by the head of the Department, Dr Romina Rashid. Paying rich tributes to Dr B. R. Ambedkar, she emphasised upon the students to read the constitution of India and know about their rights and duties towards India. She also threw light on Dr Ambedkar’s role as a social – reformer and an erudite scholar who worked for the upliftment of Indian society and always believed in an inclusive society.
The program was conducted by Ms ToyibaShamshir and Mehmooda. The papers were presented by Mehlaqa Batool, Mariyam Jalil, RadhikaVerma, Jagriti, Mohd Irfan Bhatti, Mehmooda, Maryam Shabir, Faiza Mughal, Shahzad Sheikh.
The speakers spoke on various facets of Dr Ambedkar’s personality and his contribution to Indian society. Mr Tanvir Ahmad, Assistant Professor in the Department of English said that B. R. Ambedkar was not only a visionary but his life is a lesson for us to understand the struggles faced by the marginalised people who were pushed towards the periphery. Students, research scholars and faculty members of the department were present on the occasion.
