Kathua : The annual BaisakhiMela of Banistarted with a grand opening as the inaugural day events attracted scores of people from different parts of J&K besides neighbouring states of Punjab & Himachal Prade
SDM, Joginder Singh Jasrotia, who was the Chief Guest inaugurated the Mela by lighting the traditional lamp. DDC Member BaniReeta Thakur, Additional Secretary JKAACL SanjeevRana were also present on the occasion.
At the outset, the chief guest along with other dignitaries inspected the stalls put up by different departments besides exhibits of local art and craft were also showcased which attracted the visitors.
A scintillating cultural programme depicting local dance, folklore, culture and heritage presented by JKAACL and local artists mesmerized the audience.
Dogrigeetdu, Himachali songs and nukkadnatak were the main attractions of the Program.
The SDM called for promoting and preserving the indigenous culture of the mountainous belt of Bani which has a distinct identity and culture. He said the mela provides a great opportunity for local artists to exhibit their talent and also offers avenues for their income by selling their artifacts besides disseminating information regarding local art, craft, culture and legacy.
Additional Secretary JKAACL SanjeevRana said the academy will continue to come up with similar kinds of events from time to time to promote and conserve the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Mela also nurtures the talents of local artists and provides them a platform to showcase their talent.
