Govt P.G College for women GN celebrates AmbedkarJayanti

Jammu: The Department of Political Science Government P.G College for Women Gandhi Nagar, in collaboration with IQAC celebrated “AmbedkarJayanti” by organising an Intra-College Declamation Competition on the theme “Different facets of Dr. B.R Ambedkar’s life Journey” under the banner of ‘AzadikaAmrutMahotsav” in the College Premises (Smart Class Room) Tuesday.
The Principal of the College Dr.SangitaNagari was the Chief- Guest at the event. In her address, she congratulated the department for organising this event and encouraged the students to follow the social and political thoughts of Dr Ambedkar.
The programme started with the welcome address by Prof.Paramjeet Singh, who presented a detailed description on ‘The Anarchy of Grammar’ by Dr.B.R. Ambedkar and rules of Declamation competition to the participants.
Dr.Harmeet Singh delivered a lecture on the life and Philosophy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as a Social Reformer.
Dr. Pooja Charak, HOD Political Science & Convenor of the event, appreciated the participants’ efforts. She said that such activities keep the students engaged and help to explore and encourage them to follow the ideas of great leaders of the Nation. The judges for this competition were Dr.SujataSlathia( HOD Economics);Prof.MalaBhasin(HOD Botany) and Prof.AnuradhaChoudhary. (Department of Education).
Around 20 enthusiastic students from the Department of Political Science participated in the Declamation. The speakers highlighted the multitude facets of Dr. B.R Ambedkar’s life Journey. His contributions as a Social Reformer, Democrat, Economist, Constitution Maker, Political Activist, Intellectual, leader of down-trodden etc. were well stated by the speakers.
SimranJamwal, student of B.A semester 1 was adjudged first, while second and third positions were bagged by Lakshita B.A semester 1 and RitikaChoudhary of B.A semester 5, respectively. The emphasis of the event was on the hardships and struggle faced by Dr. B.R Ambedkar since his childhood till his political career.
The Participants were encouraged to take inspiration and lessons from his life journey. They were told that despite facing so much oppression and deprivation, he excelled in all domains and attained huge stature across the globe. The program ended with the vote of thanks presented by Dr.Harmeet Singh.
Present on the occasion were Dr RenuSehgal, Associate Professor Department of music,Prof.EishaGohil(HOD Psychology),Prof.SurajMohiniJamwal (HOD SOCIOLOGY),and Prof.NishaBhagat(HOD Environmental Sciences)Dr.Varun Sharma (HOD Philosophy) and others.
