Srinagar : On the eve of ‘World Health Day’ celebrated every year on 7th of April. The Govt. Dental College and Hospital, Srinagar Thursday organsied a programme with focus on the current year theme, “our Planet, Our Health”.
On the occasion a plantation drive was conducted within the campus of Govt. Dental College & Hospital, Srinagar by Department of Public Health Dentistry. The plantation drive was started by Principal/Dean Prof. (Dr.) Riyaz Farooq.
This plantation drive was held with an aim of contributing to the green drive of our country, lighting against global warming and thereby reducing its impact on climate change and presenting a better environment for the next generation.
Prof. (Dr.) Shabir Ahmed Shah, HOD Dental Material & Medical Superintendent, Govt. Dental College & Hospital, Srinagar, Dr Aasim Farooq Shah Assistant Professor / Incharge Head of Department of Public Health Dentistry, various doctors and students of the institution actively participated in the said plantation drive.
During the programme, more than 120 trees including Deodar, Cedar, Betula and Maple trees were planted within the campus.
The said plantation drive was organized in collaboration with the Sindh Forest Division Ganderbal.
The event was conducted in order to focus on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy and to foster a movement to create a society focused on well-being.
While the COVID-19 pandemic showed us the healing power of science, it also highlighted the inequities in our world. The pandemic has revealed weaknesses in all areas of society and underlined the urgency of creating sustainable well-being societies committed to achieving equitable health now and for future generations without breaching ecological limits.
